Where in the World is Scott
Date:
October 27, 2002
I'll give you some clues: I am in a famous capitol
city whose name is synonomous with the country. This
city has the densest population in the world and it is
the second most polluted in the world -- Mexico City
is the worst. Sitting on the banks of a famous river,
my eyes and lungs burn, my throat is sore. I have
started smoking again just to get a breath of fresh
air. One of the world's most famous monuments casts
its shadow over McDonalds. The culture has many rules,
but the street lights are just decorations. My cab
nearly got in an accident twice on the way from the
airport and then the cabby crunched a parked car while
rounding a corner. This city has been overthrown and
occupied by nearly all its neighbors and, therefore,
it has been home to many of the world's major
religions and peoples. I can fill my stomach at the
street vendor's with mashed beans on a pita seasoned
with lemon juice, olive oil, pepper, salt and cumin,
and a pile of falafel for about 25 cents. Also,
present is one of world's largest archaelogical
museums with artifacts just piled in rooms gathering
dust waiting to be excavated again.
If you want a postcard send me your address and the name of this city.
