Who says being a friend isn't an adventure?
More info and ideas for sharing below. |
Below are some ideas to get you started, if you have anymore we can add them to the list. Please note: At this stage I have literally hundreds of ideas and each idea can take thousands of steps. So, right now the biggest way to make a difference is to spend even just 5 minutes and do anything, even if it is just one phone call to the friend of a friend who might know a journalist.

Loved the book —
The book is the glue that's holding all this together. And despite a lot of time and money, and critical acclaim, very few people even know it exists. Here are few specific ideas to help. Please see the other categories for more general ideas.
- Tell your friends. This one bears repeating. Most book sales are a direct result of word-of-mouth recommendations. Share "Falling Uphill" on your personal website, blog, Myspace or Facebook page. Click here for a link to some useful words and pics.
- Gift. Give your friends "Falling Uphill" as a real-life example of how to create real hope and change in yourself and therefore the world.
- Contact your local newspaper, radio or TV station. The media is always thirsty for new stories, and most show great interest in a story about a man who rode a bicycle around the world, and now that there is a book and a book tour, they'll be even more interested to share the inspiration with their audience.
This press kit has some useful info. Like a letter to the media email template and flyers and coupons you can hang in your local store.
- Write a review. Try Amazon or Barnes & Noble or Goodreads, you can even submit a review to your local paper or community newsletter (such as a bike club).
- Affiliate program. Most retailers take 40% of the cover price (sometimes more if they insist on discounts), and the distributors take 20%, plus additional charges for shipping. Believe it or not that's 4-9 times more money than the author's traditionally earn. I figure why let the bookstore giants make all the money, when I can let my friends make the money instead. More info.
- Create an idea that matches your passion.

Tell a friend —
This might be the easiest and most effective thing you could do. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising. |

|
Networker —
Take telling a friend to the next level.
It's all about who you know, and maybe somebody knows somebody that will be the spark that launches Falling Uphill to critical mass. If you start talking passionately about any subject with your friends, you'll be surprised how many opportunities they offer you.
Does anyone know Oprah? 5 minutes on the Oprah Show will make "Falling Uphill" a bestseller. Help Scott live the Oprah Effect. Or the Ellen Effect or the Letterman Effect.... Spread the word — 6 degrees of separation.
- Become a Friend of the Ride and invite your friends.
- Join my Facebook community of friends.
- Join the "Falling Uphill" Fan Club on Facebook.
- Subscribe to the youtube video blog
- Follow my adventure on twitter
- Flickr. Invite your friends, tag some photos. I love this.
- Or, create your own community
- Or, better yet find and existing structure and link our community to it.

Dinner party & book reading —
This is one of the easier, more fun and direct ways to help. Create a Falling Uphill dinner party and read a chapter from the book. You can even invite Scott for a personal slideshow and book signing. |

Photographer / Videographer —
Do you have related videos or photos? We can post them here or on uTube, Facebook or Google Maps for everyone to see. I look forward to making a short film of my adventure.
Tag some photos on Flickr. Many photos (if they get discovered) have been used for good causes, like HIV and AIDs awareness in the Tanzania Ministry of Health |
